After you have established a regular nursing routine with your baby, you may wonder about the future and become curious about other nursing issues, perhaps because you are returning to work or will be planning time away from your baby. Remember that experts recommend exclusive chest or breastfeeding for the first six months, at which point nursing is recommended in combination with solid foods until your infant is two years or older. If you are having difficulty, remember that support is available to you. Your partner, family and friends can learn how to support you and there are lactation consultants available in many communities to help you with any challenges you encounter.
If you are considering not nursing, or need to stop your supply, there are a number of important factors to consider. See more on this page about nursing support, alternatives to human milk, storing milk, starting solid food at six months, stopping your milk supply and weaning.
