It is normal to have bleeding and discharge from your vagina for a few weeks following birth. This discharge is called "lochia" and will change in colour from bright to dark red to pinkish or brownish to yellowish white over time and should stop between ten days to a few weeks following birth. It is important to know when vaginal bleeding is too much or indicates a problem so that you can seek help from your maternity care provider.
