Vision Development

Your baby’s vision goes through many changes during their first year of life. When they are a newborn, babies have very little eyesight, but their vision will develop gradually over the first two years of life. Your baby does not have these abilities at birth because they must learn how to move, focus and use their eyes together as a team. It also takes your baby time to learn how to understand the world around them.

Your doctor will check your baby’s vision at each well-child visit. This includes making sure your baby’s vision is developing appropriately. Vision development milestones are based on your baby’s due date, not on their birth date.

Knowing what to expect can help you watch and enjoy your child’s visual development.
